Gita Varadarajan

Gita Varadarajan is the acclaimed author of several beloved Scholastic publications, including Save Me a Seat, My Bindi, and its companion book, My Saree. Through her heartfelt and empowering stories, Gita has captured the imagination of readers of all ages, celebrating diversity, identity, and the power of personal storytelling.
 

Notably, Save Me a Seat, co-authored with Sarah Weeks, has been selected for the North Carolina Elementary Battle of the Books for the 2024-2025 school year, highlighting its significance in promoting literacy and discussion among young readers.
 

As a sought-after guest author and speaker, Gita inspires children across the country to create stories in their own voices. Her two decades of teaching experience and her passion for literacy have made her a frequent panelist at children’s book events and a treasured mentor to young writers.
 

Currently, Gita teaches fourth graders in Princeton Public Schools. She holds a Master’s degree in Literacy Instruction from Teachers College, Columbia University, and she continues to share her dedication to fostering creativity and connection through her work in classrooms and beyond.
